I'm unsure if it fits into this subreddit. It's got talks about castration and there is a horse which has gotten gelded, but the act of castration isn't directly written like in many other stories.) Warrick stood watching over his handsome colt chasing the herd around the grass field. The old roan stallion couldn't help wishing that he had the younger stallion's energy. He snorted in amusement as he watched the bucking and playful kicking of the many youngsters. The one notable exception was Madoc, the young Palomino stallion, who was the offspring of the former herd stallion, even though he was roughly the same age as Warrick's son, Sterling. The roan herd stallion and his mare had taken over after Madoc's sire and most of his herd had been sold off. Madoc's dam had been near her time, so Henry, the farmer, had kept her. It had not been up to Warrick, still, he'd welcomed the mare and her son into his herd. It had given Sterling a rival, which was a good thing for a young stallion to have. "Wow, look at them running... looks like they're having a lot of fun." Warrick's pointed equine ears flickered on his head. Maggie, the farmer's filly and only offspring, was standing by the fence, her and Henry looking out into the field together. Warrick knew the two humans well. He had watched Maggie grow from a freckled little thing with pigtails, to the tall young human mare she is today. "You would almost think they knew what was going to happen," Maggie observed, making the stallion listen closer, as Henry leaned up against the fence, placing one boot onto the lowest wooden rail. "They're a lot smarter than most folks think they are," he observed with a faint smile. He had always loved these big, sleek animals. "Anyway... it sure is going to be a change. I'm gonna miss ol' Warrick and the others, but I need the money and, besides, it will give Sterling and Madoc a chance to show what kind of stud they can become." Looking across his land, he inspected the fenced-in areas, the largest containing the herd, with the other smaller ones mostly holding singled-out stallions, all of them on the older end in age.  The other stallions had been bought around the same time as Warrick, serving as good breeding studs to maintain genetic diversity within the herd. However, Warrick had by far bred the most mares, with the other stallions only getting occasional opportunities when he brought a mare into their area for breeding. Yet, those stallions were still responsible for half of all the now adult foals born since Madoc's sire and his herd had been sold and removed. Henry could still vividly recall the day he sold the Palomino studs herd. Now, Henry would really have to stir up every one of those areas for things to work out "Speak of the devil, Daddy. Here comes Warrick," Maggie remarked as he approached. The atmosphere felt sweet; the winter had faded overnight, and spring was by now in full swing. Finally, Warrick and the others wouldn't have to endure the cumbersome clothing humans put on them in the harsh winter weather. They fed him fresh grass from their hands as usual, gently stroking his fur in that special way only humans could. "Good horse, I'll ensure you find a good home where you can grow old with your partner in crime," Henry chuckled, reminiscing about the old herd stallion who had met, charmed, and fallen in love with the one Warrick now cherished as the love of his life. "So, how many are you going to sell again?" Maggie asked, leaning on the fence as she gazed at the herd in the distance. Living in this remote area truly felt like a blessing for these beautiful creatures, Maggie thought. The horses sometimes seemed wild to look at, with the expansive grass fields and forests on their property providing an amazing environment. It was something her father had boasted about to other farmers on multiple occasions.  "I was thinking about selling half - the old stallions, of course, but mainly the ones Warrick has bred, along with most of his foals. Perhaps I'll leave behind one of Sterling's sisters, considering how Madoc got a bit too personal with Meital the other day." The two humans chuckled at the memory, as the pretty roan mare nearly knocked out one of Madoc's teeth when he got too close for her comfort. "Well now, isn't that something," Madoc snorted, nudging against the old stallion, showing signs of rough play. Warrick had a sense that it wouldn't be long before the golden stallion challenged him for the right to breed. "Looks like it's just going to be me and little Sterling," Madoc observed with an aggressive snort, flashing the older stallion a taunting grin. He always referred to Sterling in a belittling manner, indicating his rivalry with the roan. "Sterling will be the next herd stallion," Warrick said plainly. They both understood that the Warrick's son was stronger and more of a fighter than Madoc. While the Palomino was a cunning stallion, known for tricking many of the other horses in the past, Warrick continued, "If you're lucky, Henry will move you to another field during the mating season." He lifted his head, gazing at his small herd with a touch of concern. Knowing that Henry was a caring owner and wouldn't let any harm come to them, the big roan stallion still fretted for his offspring that would be left behind. "Don't look so worried, old buddy," Henry reassured, patting the sturdy, long neck of the equine gently, eliciting a soft knicker of pleasure from the stallion. "He's a good dad... worried about his offspring. I can understand that," the farmer chuckled, glancing over at his daughter, who would soon be returning to university. He couldn't help but fret about her being in the city, given her choice of boyfriends that didn't inspire much confidence. "Heh... you two are just the same," Maggie snickered, observing the young Palomino stallion darting off into the field to play with the others. She reached over, feeding Warrick a sweet crunchy cube from her shirt pocket, a treat she often had on her. "Oh, did I tell you Mel called? They want me to take in a rescued gelding. He was in pretty bad shape; it took them almost a month to nurse him back to health," Henry shook his head at the cruelty some animals face. "I told them I'd take him. I doubt the herd will have any trouble welcoming him." The roan stallion crunched the feed in his mouth, savouring the taste, as he watched the two humans wander back towards the large shelter. ..... By the time Warrick walked back to his herd, things had considerably calmed down. The older mares were busy grazing and grooming their nearly fully grown offspring, while others kept watch--a learned instinct due to the farm's size. "Where is Sterling? I need to talk to him," Warrick addressed the group in front of him. "I last saw him walking towards the forest with Lanthe," his wife, the gorgeous roan mare Odette, chimed in. Despite her age, she remained a stunning presence, having birthed more than a few foals with her strong will and even stronger hind legs. Without hesitation, Warrick trotted off towards the treeline, the sunset approaching while the cold and darkness settled in. Fortunately, Old Henry had not yet clipped their coats, so their fur remained long and suitable for insulation. These days, just a glance exchanged between the farmer and himself was enough for each to understand the other's thoughts. Approaching the area, grunts were faintly audible from behind a rock. Shaking his head ever so slightly, Warrick moved closer and saw his colt and the colt's mare companion. The scene before him was more or less as he expected: his son enthusiastically mounting his mare. Warrick cleared his throat softly to alert the pair of his presence before them. "DAD!" Sterling shouted, releasing his marefriend's neck from his jaw as he had been in the midst of climaxing. Jumping off, the three horses present heard the clear sound of his huge flare exiting her overstretched sex, a cascade of seed following suit as his mighty pole was now out in the open. A smile sneaked its way onto Warrick's snout as he looked it up and down, happy to know that his son had inherited all the good genes he had to offer.  "We must speak," Warrick grunted to his son as Lanthe took the hint, smirking back over her shoulder as she trotted away. Tail held high, with a long string of thick gooey white dangling from her sleek tear-drop-shaped equine sex, the mare knew full well to show off what kind of stud had just rutted her. Sterling felt a strange jealousy at his sire being so close to his mare. It was silly, but he was ready to fight his own sire if the older male attempted to mount her. "So, what is this about, Dad?" Sterling asked, his pink nose darkening with a blush at the thought of his sire catching him and Lanthe rutting. Even when Warrick pointedly ignored the female as she trotted away, swaying her rump in that alluring manner mares tended to have. "I just overheard Henry and his daughter talking," Warrick began, finally catching Sterling's attention away from the mare Sterling loved so much. "Soon, your dam and I will be leaving. Soon, you will have to take over the herd." Sterling stared at his sire in shock, feeling oddly frightened by the message. "What? Dad, but I, what am I going to do?" the young stallion stammered, his sire moving up to lay his long, narrow head on the other stallion's shoulder, feeling Sterling's strong heart. "Oh, come on now... you are going to take your place as herd stallion. Of course you are; we always knew this day was coming," Warrick assured his handsome young son, the older stallion feeling intensely proud. "Madoc will test you, of course, but we both know you're a better male than him... Stronger... faster... more virile." The one thing Warrick carefully avoided saying was "smarter"... because he wasn't about to lie to his son. It was Sterling's one flaw, well, perhaps two flaws: One, he was a bit dense, and two, he was very innocent. These were traits that the Palomino had taken advantage of in the past, much to Warrick's shame. Madoc had convinced Sterling that stallions often cleaned each other's male organs, a memory Warrick still recalled vividly. He remembered the day he'd found his son licking and lapping at the other male's organ. The older stallion had to explain to his son that he had been cruelly manipulated into pleasuring the other stallion. "Just watch him carefully... and beware of his tricks." Warrick couldn't entirely fault Sterling, especially considering thow Sterling's stubbornness had shone through. As a result, Madoc had to reciprocate by attempting to convince him in a similar manner. Reflecting on the scene once more as Warrick walked back to the herd with his son, the image of the shaken Madoc remained clear in his mind. His son's stamina had made his erect pride stay firm with no seed spilling, Madoc, on the other hoof, had been shaking during his climax. Having witnessed Warrick mount a mare only once prior, neither colt had much experience with sex. This lack of familiarity led to multiple premature ejaculations from Madoc, causing him to linger in the forest for quite an extended period until his erect member subsided. It was also on that night that Lanthe made her first move on Warrick's son, with their union so loud it was heard outside the forest. This perhaps had been one of the reasons for why Madoc took so long to calm down. \*\*\*\*\* The following weeks were filled with preparation on Henry's part as buyers came to inspect the various horses he had for sale. Warrick's reputation as a breeding stallion earned him a high price, reflected in his sale, along with his dam and two of his colts, to another farmer who wanted to breed roan horses. Having relayed everything Henry said to him, Sterling wasn't surprised to see all his siblings set for sale and bought one by one. He half-suspected that most of his half-stallion brothers wouldn't arrive at their destinations 'intact', as many buyers seemed to make deals regarding future racing careers for them. If the stories from Maggie were accurate, their intact parts would likely be removed. "It's all right, buddy. I'm sure your new owner will be happy to have a stallion," he reassured one of his half-brothers as the horse was loaded into a truck. The carefree colt was unaware of the fate that awaited him, with the unsettling scissoring motion gestures the buyer had made still fresh in Sterling's mind. His sisters were often picked up by eager young girls, thrilled to upgrade from ponies to horses to advance their riding careers. By the month's end, almost half of the herd had been sold, with his half-sister Meital being the last one from his family remaining. As his sire, dam, and two remaining colt brothers were being loaded, Sterling spoke to Warrick one last time before they would part ways for good. "Damn, it's been a long week," Warrick observed with a tired sigh, the older stallion looking sadly at his handsome son. "I hate long goodbyes," the older male snorted, even as he watched the colts being loaded into a horse trailer. "It's better to just turn and trot off..." Sterling gazed sadly, understanding that these emotional farewells were challenging for his soft-hearted father. He chose to remain silent, allowing his sire to express his emotions, as Warrick raised his head high, surveying his former domain one last time. "Be a good herd stallion, Sterling. Think before you act... Don't let Madoc embarrass you in front of the herd," the older stallion rambled on, offering advice and warnings that he believed his son should heed. This would be the final guidance Warrick would give to him. "Remember, no matter what, your mother and I love you. You will be a fine herd stallion." Warrick turned his long, equine head, locking eyes with his son for a moment. "And remember, when they come into season, not all mares are as eager for you as Lanthe. Some mares can become irritable when in heat and may kick out if approached from behind. Try to mount them from the side when possible, not directly from the rear, so you're out of harm's way in case of a kick. I learned that lesson the hard way; take heed."  "Ahem... Dad, what a thing to say," Sterling stammered, blushing deeply as the gate opened and Henry entered to collect his sire. "Once you get a good grip, you can manoeuvre around behind and sink in," his sire advised as Henry attached a lead rope to his halter. Guiding the old stallion out of the field, Sterling paced along the inside of the fence. "It's your kingdom now, Sterling," Warrick called as he was loaded into the trailer, casting one last look at his stallion offspring. Sterling held his head high, bid a farewell, and then turned to prance away, knowing it was quite possibly the kindest gesture he could offer his sire. The older stallion, with watery eyes, watched his son race into the field. Beside the old stallion stood his mate, while their two colt offspring were in the next trailer. "What a way to describe our first ever mating, my dear," Odette remarked, shaking her head slightly as her mate chuckled in response. "Just trying to shield him a little. I know I could have used it before your majestic back legs made contact with my jaw," Warrick jokes, feeling over the spot where one of his big teeth should have been. The mare had broken it in half, leading Henry to remove the remaining part. Warrick thought of Henry as a kind, quiet, and caring farmer. Henry had allowed Warrick to freely roam the field to mate as many times as he wished.  "Careful now, honey. Wouldn't want our new owners to remove another tooth before you get to mount me once more," Odette chuckled. She'd overheard discussions about them going to a breeding farm, where Warrick would have the opportunity to mate with mares for a few more seasons before they retired him and her alongside him. This would likely leave their sons to continue breeding more roans with the awaiting mares once they were retired. The breeding season was nearly upon them, with Warrick catching the scent of Odette's enticing aroma filling the entire trailer. His sheath stirred as the couple nuzzled their long heads into each other's shoulders, the audible sound of his member slapping against his stomach. "Do you think you could perhaps do, you know what?" Warrick inquired. "Hmm, I could try. If I lay down, I might manage to get my lips close enough to give it a try," Odette teased. The two trailers drove away with the four horses before any more teasing words could be heard from the nearby field, where a rather puzzled female pony resided. \*\*\*\*\* Maggie watched her father load Warrick and Odette with tears in her eyes. She had spent a lot of time growing up with them and would miss them terribly. Understanding how perceptive horses were at sensing emotions, even those of humans, she had kept her distance to avoid making things harder for her father. Standing in the shadow of the barn amidst the growing darkness, she didn't want to upset him by showing her tears. As the two old trucks pulled their trailers away, she slowly walked over to where her dad stood, his arms resting on the wooden fence. Henry watched as Sterling stood on a small rise in the pasture, gazing out at the territory of his sire, now feeling strangely calm as the herd grazed peacefully nearby. "You alright?" she asked as she joined him. Henry tilted his head, looking at her sideways. Her cheeks were dry but red from having rubbed away the tears. He smiled softly at her. "It's never easy... letting go," he said with a grunt, clearing his throat as his own emotions choked him up a bit. "It was hard seeing them go, just like it was tough watching you head off to college." He chuckled softly, reaching over to wrap an arm around her body. "You'll experience that mix of joy and pain one day with children of your own. It's bittersweet... on one hand, you're proud of them for being bold, strong, and mature. On the other hand, you wish they could stay your little one forever... Your mother cried all night on your first night away. But that's life... and I'm proud of you for carving your path in the world. You'll be just fine... just like Warrick and the others. We'll miss them, but we know they're in good hands. I'm sure the Filberts wouldn't mind if we stopped by to see them from time to time." Just then, a loud 'honk' interrupted their moment. Henry turned to see a big truck and trailer pulling into the drive beside the barn. "Oh, looks like that gelding is here," Henry spoke with a grin as he and Maggie headed to greet the driver. A few moments later, Maggie returned, leading the handsome midnight equine. Henry walked beside her as she stroked the gelding's shaggy mane gently and spoke softly to him. "It's all right, you're going to really like it here," she assured the Friesian, whose ears swivelled around to listen as she spoke. The dark equine was undeniably beautiful, prompting Maggie to once again ponder how anyone could have mistreated such a magnificent animal. As Henry opened the gate, she led the Friesian horse into the field, glancing over at her father and asking simply, "What's his name?" "Uranus," Henry answered with a roll of his eyes, explaining that the name had been chosen by one of the children among the shelter's staff.  "You're kidding!" Maggie snorted as she petted and scratched the large equine for a moment before removing the halter, allowing him to move freely. He nickered and circled her slowly, his body gently nudging her as he sniffed around. "I wish I were... but it's right here on the paperwork. This poor gelding is named Uranus now," Henry remarked with a chuckle as the gelding sniffed at Maggie's head briefly. "At least he won't be vying for breeding rights..." "So Sterling and Madoc shouldn't have too much of a problem with him," Maggie noted as the handsome Friesian began to nuzzle at her shirt pocket. Apparently, his large equine nose had detected the scent of the sugar cubes she carried.  "Hey, easy there, big guy... no one likes a pushy pony," Maggie giggled, gently pushing his muzzle away. However, the equine persisted, nudging her once more. Turning her around, he rubbed his head against her back roughly, engaging in that endearing way equines scent marked. Placing the last sugar cube in her pocket onto her palm, Maggie held her hands out flat. Uranus's rubbery Friesian lips explored her hand before picking up the cube and eagerly munching on it.  As she moved down his body, rubbing his shiny dark fur while examining him, she noticed he was still a bit lean but had the rounded, soft look that geldings often acquired if neutered at a young age. "You could almost be mistaken for a mare," Maggie mused as she observed him, her hands sliding down his barrel and then up between his hind legs. "Except for this, of course." Her warm hands toyed with his small sheath, checking if the shelter workers had thoroughly cleaned him, as the gelding savoured the sugar she had given him. Fortunately, it seemed they had removed any traces of smegma that could have been present within his tiny sheath. "Not that it's very noticeable." Uranus turned his head to look back at her as she softly touched his velvety flesh. "It's so small... seems more fitting for a colt than a male as big and healthy as you." The Friesian gelding felt a wave of embarrassment as the human remarked on his modest size for a male. "Well, that's what happens when you geld a horse," Henry pointed out with a smirk, recalling the last fellow his daughter had brought home. He had almost been tempted to invite the guy out to the barn; after all, he had an EZ-bander out there, and that man should not be allowed to have any offspring. "He was most likely gelded very young... some people prefer to do it as early as possible."  "Poor guy... never got to have any fun. Not that a mare would get much out of a thing small," Maggie chuckled, her fingers tracing the scar where Uranus's stud nuggets had once hung, wondering if they had been equally as small. She withdrew from his sheath, leaving the gelding looking around, as he quite suddenly felt alone. "Well, like I mentioned, at least he won't be fighting with other males," Henry grunted as both humans strolled back toward the barn. "I'll fetch some sweet feed for all of them. We'll have them acquainted over a nice snack. It should help ease his transition a bit," Henry explained as they disappeared into the barn together. Uranus stood there, his head leaning over the fence, watching them depart. ..... With the two humans walking away to likely prepare food for all the horses on this new farm. Uranus concluded that taking a short stroll to pass the time was a good idea, the sun hung low on the horizon, with an hour at most of sunlight left before darkness would render him invisible, as it always did. This was something the herd stallion at the place he used to call home had often become frustrated about, having run into the gelding more times than Uranus cared to remember. "Home sweet home, I guess," Uranus murmured softly, his high-pitched equine voice a curse as much as it was a blessing. It'd allowed for him to move surreptitiously within his former home, eluding many of the more aggressive stallions. Each time they confronted him, he pitched his voice a bit lighter, ensuring they wouldn't recognize him. To his right was a small enclosure near the large barn, within it a pony not much smaller than himself. How he wished he'd grown taller after being gelded. Horse stallions typically aren't taller than geldings since their hormones often halt their growth early. In contrast, geldings can benefit from trading their masculinity for additional height. Unfortunately, Uranus hadn't been so fortunate. He was larger than a pony but had stood a hand or two shorter than both the mares and stallion at his previous farm, and considerably shorter than the herd stallion who'd viciously attacked him. The human farmers hadn't intervened, dismissing the violence as natural selection. Only with the help of their neighbours had Uranus managed to survive. Making sure he was brought to a shelter for wounded animals. "Hey, my name is Uranus. What's yours?" he introduced himself to the smaller female. The Dartmoor pony reminded him of what a foal with an old friend might have looked like, had the farmers not denied him the opportunity after Uranus failed to mount her the first time. At the time, he had been a young foal, his adulthood having begun days before the attempted mounting, as his balls had only just dropped when he'd opened up to his love interest.
