Blood spilled in a land of hollows doesn't simply dry; it invites darkness and chaos. Acting as a dinner bell for things that fester in the shadowy night…
The rising mist over the Mesaizi Forest is a living thing. Thin but carries a coppery, wet, scent. It clings to the black bark of the leafless trees, muffling the sounds of the seven human workers as they linger around a massive Alantium "Mover" vehicle.
BEEP…BEEP…BEEP
“Easy. Easyyyy. Keep her straight Benji!”
The machine is a hulking, loud, slow moving beast of heated iron and glowing arcane joints. It’s front-mounted grinding wheels slowly chew through underbrush and fallen timber to carve a trade path. Its engine rumbles low and constant.
A cold heartbeat in the dead forest…
“Fuck. It’s freezing. Ted, can I get a light?”
“Yeah I gotcha.”
Huntsman Harry Tolith stares out into the oppressive gloom of the forest with his right hand resting idly on the red pommel of his katana and his left hand holding his clover cigarette itches from his lips.
He knows they’re deep in a hostile zone. Any stray drop of sweat or blood can compromise the entire operation. This was the third evening of a grueling, week-long contract for the Helnwein Guild. His task is simple on paper but suicidal in practice: keep a massive, heavily armored mover and its crew of excavation workers alive through seven consecutive nights.
Thankfully the night shifts so far have been long and uneventful. The workers, nervous but grateful for the hazard pay, keep close to the Mover's orange glow to stay warm and smoke together while steering the behemoth with their scroll tech. It makes them feel safe despite all the rumors they’ve heard.
Mesaizi land is vampire territory. And if you’re not a bloodsucker yourself, you’re a walking juice box for the thirsty. But the private trade company is paying handsomely for this route, so fear isn’t a luxury they can afford…
The Helnwein Protection Crew is spread around the mover too. Lukian, a six foot, massively built green skinned orc with short black hair, leans against the Mover's iron flank with boredom. The cherry of his thick cigar looks like a tiny star against his deep facial scars and the surrounding darkness. He watches the treeline with the patient eyes of a former Shizuko warrior.
Beside him walks a beautiful Drow named Jade. She’s like a ghost in the mist, her long white hair and freckles the only indicator of her quiet presence as she checks the tension on her crossbow. A slim clover cigarette dangles from her dark lips too as she takes a long, slow drag. The sweet, herbal smoke curls around her sharp features and deep cleavage.
Further out, Harry Tolith walks with a rigid stride in a long black duster jacket flowing by his boots. The large black feathers of his Fawnix crow wings, hidden beneath his coat, twitch with a nervous energy only he can feel. His gray bird-like eyes, adapted for the sharpest details, keep watch over everything. Including the two other huntsmen, average swords for hire named Dillian and Grover, as they flank the workers.
"You know," Dillian says, his voice pitched low, "I've been told I have a talent for keeping people safe. It's a gift, really."
Near the Mover's control panel, Dillian finds a moment to lay down his moves. The young huntsman, sandy-haired and boyish despite the sword at his hip, leans against the iron plating with what he hoped was a charming smile. Beside him, a half-elf woman named Sora monitors the Mover's progress on a glowing scroll screen. Her soft fingers dance across the arcane interface.
She’s pretty, with copper hair tied back in a practical bun and eyes the color of oranges. Sora glances at him, one eyebrow raised.
"Is that so?"
"Absolutely. I once guarded a caravan through the Bakota Bays. Three days, no incidents. Well, except for the wolf pack, but I handled that."
"The Bays are known for its dire wolves," Sora nods, a small smile playing at her lips. "How did you handle a pack?"
Dillian puffs out his chest.
"Bravery. Swordplay skills. A certain...natural charisma that wolves find intimidating."
Sora laughs, a bright sound that cuts through the oppressive mist. "You're ridiculous."
"Ridiculously charming, you mean."
She shakes her head, still smiling, and turns back to her scroll tech’s screen.
"Focus on the job, hero. We've got a path to clear."
Grover, the other newbie, stands nearby with his tall spear, watching the treeline with wide, nervous eyes.
"I don't like this. It's too quiet."
"It's always quiet," Lukian rumbles from his post, "That's what makes it boring. Hey, Harry! You sure this the right spooky gig we signed up for? Cuz the closest thing to a monster we've seen is a stinkin monkey badger. The company paying us to babysit ghosts or what?"
“H-Hey! Don’t talk like that’s a bad thing. It’s good that it’s quiet…”
Grover whispers and looks around, trying to keep his ears peeled for anything out of the unordinary.
"You know it’s not a ghost we should be worried about. The rumors are persistent," Harry says back, his voice clipped.
"This is supposed to be undead territory. They will not appreciate the intrusion."
Jade exhales a plume of smoke, her brown eyes looking between the two men and getting chills from beyond the trees.
"Persistent rumors usually have a body count behind them."
Dillian laughs nervously, falling back into the group's conversation.
"I don’t know, I have to agree with the big guy. It’s boring as shit without anything to ram into…but it doesn’t matter even if we did. Ain’t nothing bad enough out there to deal with us…right?”
Harry doesn’t say anything because his sharp eyes stop looking to instead focus on something. They fix on a single point in the darkness where the mist seems to thicken and swirl with unnatural purpose.
“…Trouble." he says, his voice a whip-crack.
The attack didn't arrive with a roar. It came with the sudden, absolute silence of the Mover's engine sputtering and dying.
BEEEEP…
The workers freeze as the warm orange glow of the vehicle's conduits flickers, then goes dark. The mist swirls, thick and red. In the space of a heartbeat, the weak light was gone and replaced by the rustle of leathery wings and a low, collective hiss that seem to come from everywhere at once.
"Everybody. Heads up! Vampires!"
Rumyana steps out of the mist as if she’s been waiting for the perfect moment. A vampire elf woman, her once beautiful blonde hair now a river of deep black. Her eyes pool of crimson hunger and her tongue glides across her sharp teeth as she ponders who she wants to devour first.
“So many snacks. All in one place. Just for us.”
She wears form-fitting brown leather and ruby red earrings. Practical but elegant enough to show off her child bearing hips and huge gray rack. Her sharp nails are long and lacquered black and behind her, a dozen more vampires materializing from the shadows. Their beady eyes fixed on the fleeing workers.
“Oh goddesses please. Don’t let us die…”
One worker prays with another, gulping hard as he feels his heartbeat quicken and his testicles shrivel in fear.
“You just had to open your mouth Dill, huh?” Jade bites her inner cheek as she cocks an arrow in her crossbow.
“Heh…like I s-said before. They don’t look so bad…”
Rumyana surveys the rising anxiety and unavoidable chaos with a satisfied smile. She’s the nightmare they’ve been hired to guard against. To take out if possible…
"Kill the girls," she flicks a long finger past Harry and at his crew. "But keep the men’s cherries intact. Mama needs to fuel up on some life juice."
“With pleasure lady Rumyana.”
The matching eye vampires descend fast and Dillian's nervous smile vanishes immeasurably. He draws his sword and steps in front of Sora with no idea if he can actually do this…
"Stay behind me!"
“No No No! They’re coming!”
Sora screams, dropping her scroll screen. The arcane device clatters to the ground as a vampire appears behind Dillian, materializing from invisible mist like a nightmare given form. She’s bony and tall with eyes burning like coals. Her stained fangs bare in a gleeful snarl and before Dillian can turn, her nails, long, jagged, and black as obsidian pierces up between his legs, through a cheap leather nut cup, and into his healthy, compacted, testicles.
SQELCHHH
“Gotcha Balls Twerp.”
Grabbing his manhood from behind, a woman of the night takes full control of Dillian’s strength and destroys it.
RIIIIP!!!
“Guuuuaghhhh!!!”
He screams a raw, agonizing, girly sound that echoes through the forest and sends chills down the other men’s backs. The skinny vampire yanks him backwards and up, her claws still embedded deeep in his throbbing sack.
“Say goodbye to them.”
She winks at Sora, making the poor girl go completely pale before releasing a powerful beat of her leathery wings to launch herself and Dillian into the air!
Dragging him by his babymakers with her…
“Helppp meeee!!!”
His sword falls from his nerveless fingers, clattering to the ground as his neutering screams fade into the chilly air. Disappearing into the night….
"Oh gods!”
Sora shrieks, her voice cracking with terror as another vampire, this one a shirtless male with hair like dirty straw, swoops down and grabs her by the left arm.
“No no! Let GO!”
She struggles and kicks him square between his open legs, praying to break two heavy hangers to get away. But he takes a deep breath, ignores the cruuuunch and tanks the nutshot!
“Gaah! Big mistake bitch!”
His undead balls rattle in their saggy sack but stay whole even when she claws at his grinning face. He’s too strong for her.
“Nooo!!!”
Wailing, Sora is defenseless as the vampire hoists her over his shoulders like a sack of grain and flies into the darkness.
"Stick close and defend the workers!" Harry orders, his voice cutting through the chaos with a follow up chant.
“Karasu.”
Crow.
SWOOSH!
With one beat of his own hidden, powerful wings, Harry blurs from his spot just to reappear in a swirl of black crow feathers behind a vampire that’s lunging for a fleeing man.
SHHING
“—huh?”
Harry’s silver blade flashes, and the vampire's head separates from its shoulders in an eyeblink, twirling in the air and dissolving into ash before it hits the ground.
“Ahhhh!”
Another vampire lunges at him from the side, lower fangs ready to sink deep into his throat. But Harry teleports again, in a burst of feathers, he appears directly in front of the maneater. His blade sings from its scabbard and a second head rolls across the forest floor with wide, pretty, eyes.
Shit, they’re everywhere. It’s a whole pack!
A third vampire with a blind right eye and perky small breast, sees an opening and darts towards a worker who tripped and fell. Harry sees her but he’s too far away. He sends feathers towards the two and teleports, channeling his gray Hexx Energy through multiple feathers to help skip distance but he’s not fast enough...
The vampire's weapon, a jagged shard of an animal's bone on a hilt, is already descending.
Damnit!
Appearing between them the woman’s spike plunges into Harry's side and white-hot agony spikes through his ribs.
“Ghh!”
He grunts, knees buckling, but with a quick Iai draw, his steel blade curves up fast, slashing between the fanged babe’s exposed breasts and leaving a ripping line across the woman’s surprised face.
SHLICK!!!
“Ahhhhh!!!”
She screams and flies backwards away from the swordsman, seething for his demise.
“Fuck you! I’ll rip your fucking nuts off for that!”
"Harry!"
Jade's voice, sharp with concern as she ducks under a wild swing from a bloodsucker and counters with a backhand to his mouth. She then manages to shove her hand into the side of the man’s jaw as he comes in for a quick bite, avoiding his fangs and getting an opening to slam her kneecap into the vampire's shrunken cherries.
WHAM—CRUUUNCH!
“Oooohhhh!”
Crossing his eyes, the pale man in front of Jade squirms with clenched lips as she shifts her knee side to side to reallyyyy flatten his balls into his pelvis.
"I’m okay! Don’t let up!"
Harry yells over at Jade as she shoves the vampire aware and fires an arrow into his forehead. It makes Harry wince but he ignores the ballbusting chaos to press a hand to his wounded side. He feels blood seeping between his fingers and his breathing getting a little heavier.
Great…I’m already running on fumes.
The pain is immense but he’s endured worse. He’s had to endure way worse…
“Haha! Now THIS is what I call FUN!”
Lukian roars happily, his huge warhammer swinging in wide, devastating arcs as he smashes one vampire into then another. Splitting heads like watermelons.
"Come on you pale bitches! I'm just getting warmed up!"
But there’s too fucking many.
Three vampire girls, daintily nude and quick, circle him like wolves around a bear. They move in perfect synchronization, darting in and out, avoiding his swings. One of them, a redhead with a cruel smile, flies between his legs from behind when he turns his back to her and shoves her elongated claws up between his legs to grab onto the low hanging boulders that dangle beneath his baggy pants.
“Uughh!?”
“Ooo, found a pair of big balls girls! It’s crunch timeee!”
“Yes! Crush them flat Zelly!”
“Hey! G-Get off nowaaaahhhhhh!!!”
Lukian bellows, trying to shake the redhead off as her cruel ballbreaking fingers squeeze tightly to try to squish his massive testicles into something less functional. But the other two are on him now, grabbing his arms and biting hard to pull him down.
“Ughh! Awhhhhh!!! Help! M-My Balls! Guys! She has my fucking balls!!!”
“Crunchhh Timeeee!”
One of the other vampires sings, clearly more excited then the other two as she watches Lukian’s balls compress between her friend’s unrelenting hands.
“Nooo! Wait wait! Fuuuck! Wait!”
He stumbles, his warhammer falling from his grip, and crashes onto his knees then stomach with a thunderous impact. The redhead reshaping his fat nuts laughs a cold, delighted sound before she lowers her head and sinks her fangs deep into the testicular muscles through his pants…
SHIK—POP!
“Awwwhhhhhiiii!!!!”
Lukian’s scream is a pure, unadulterated, ball agony. Zel and her girls drink deep, their throats working as they drain the life and packed cum from him through their own makeshift holes. His struggling jerks grow weaker as his massive body trembles powerlessly.
"Lukian!"
Jade slides between a vampire's legs to kick up with both heels, mushing his spunk makers like boiled eggs. She then takes aim from behind a tree and fires two arrows towards the girls wrestling the big orc man. The bolts catch the redhead in the shoulder, and she shrieks, recoiling by letting go of Lukian’s ruined left nut.
But the damage is done. Lukian lays still, his breathing shallow and his green skin now going pale…
“Ahh! Get back! Get away from me!!!”
Grover, wailing like a terrified pup, goes wide eyed when he stabs a topless woman back from shredding his nuts with her sharp toenails. But his confidence drastically drops when he watches two innocent workers shriek in unison thanks to the floating Rumyana and her blood manipulation sorcery causing their bodies to lock in place so other fanged women can reach down their pants to search for their crown jewels.
KRRRK!
“Aiiiii!”
CRRRRNCH—KRACK!
“Gghugghh!! My Balllsssss!!!”
These vampires are insane! They’re only going for a man’s…goddess I can’t even think straight! I have to get away! I have to get out of here!!!
Grover thinks frantically as he turns and raises his spear to the next ghoul, going for desperate quick thrusts. But a short five-three goblin vampire crawls on all fours around each stab and before he knows it, her tiny fist uppercuts his fragile pink testicles into his dry throat.
WHAM!!!
“Auuuhhhhhh!”
“Ha! Got you right in your nutties!”
The poor rookie falls and gurgles on drool and his own masculinity. Even his legs kick out wildly but soon two more small vampires converge on him and slam a hand over his mouth and over his lap. Trapping his gonads in a death trap.
His screams are mercifully brief…
The remaining workers scatter in all directions, panicking with no one to lead them. The patient vampires herd them with cruel efficiency, separating them from the protective circle of the last two huntsmen.
Rumyana, a vampire of only forty years, yet already notorious for her brutality and her mastery of blood, stares at Harry as his eyes narrow at her. He can see the hunger in her gaze. The barely restrained bloodlust. She’s young, by vampire standards, but that makes her more dangerous, not less.
The young ones are unpredictable.
When Rumyana's crimson eyes glow at Harry he knows she’s counting him as a threat.
The one who can move through the air like a ghost. Appearing and disappearing whenever he wants….I’ll deal with him personally.
She launches herself at him, her enhanced speed terrifying. Her black nails, sharp as his blade, rakes toward his throat.
Watch out for her hands!
Harry's bird eyes track her movement and he raises his sword to meet her, blade catching her claws with a shower of sparks. He pushes forward, twisting his wrist to slash through her nails. The tips of her lacquered claws fly away, severed cleanly, and his follow-up strike nearly takes her head clean off.
SHLIK!
The blade grazes her neck, drawing a thin line of crimson. Rumyana stumbles back, her eyes wide with shock. Then her lips curl into a grin.
"Mmm. You're pretty fast for a bird," she purrs, touching the wound on her neck delicately. Her fingers come away stained with her own blood.
"But I'm faster."
She flicks her hand and the blood from her wound lifts into the air. It floats before her, a perfect crimson orb, pulsing with dark energy. The blood then begins to reshape. Elongating and sharpening. In a heartbeat, it becomes a spear, wickedly barbed and gleaming with Hexx light.
“Catch.”
She hurls the spear at him and he shoots a feather to his left and teleports, appearing ten feet away in a swirl of black. The blood spear whistles past, impaling the tree that used to be behind him. The wood sizzles and blackens where the blood touches it but Rumyana is already moving again.
BOOM!
She pushes off a nearby tree with such force that the trunk shatters, splintering into a thousand pieces. The impact echoes through the forest like a thunderclap so fast Harry barely has time to register her speed before she’s on him, ramming her knee right into his bird eggs.
CRUNCH CRUNCH!!
“Auugh!!!”
Twisting his legs inward, Harry’s brain turns into static as both of his plump danglers are flattened against his strong thighs. Squishing them out of shape for a moment to try to take the fight out of him.
“Don’t cough them up just yet!”
Rumyana’s hand closes around his throat and she slams him into a branch. Then another, and another, dragging him through the woods with brutal force.
“Uuuughh!!!
Leaves and splintering wood rain down around them as his sword falls from his grasp, clattering to the floor far below. They crash through the final layer of branches, and when Rumyana drives him into the ground with a heavy stomp, she comes flying down to land on his big balls with both knees, shattering his nads into the ground full force!
CRACK
“Oooouuuuu! Gods!! My Balls!!!”
Harry gasps, the wind knocked out of him. His vision swam, dark spots dancing at the edges. He could feel the weight of her on his chest, the sharp pressure of her knees, the iron grip of her hand still around his throat. His wings pinned beneath him.
I’m…Useless…
"Mmmm. Got them both. Again.”
She whispers with a small giggle, confirming his ball destruction with her hot, sweet, breath. Her fangs clenched in a triumphant smile. Above them, the battle raged on but it all seemed distant. Muffled. As if he’s underwater.
Rumyana leans in closer, her cold nose brushing against his jaw. She inhales deeply, savoring the scent of his bruises and open wounds.
"You smell...good," she murmurs. "Not like the others."
Her tongue flicks out, tracing the line of his jaw.
"I wonder what you taste like..."
Harry's left hand, trembling beneath him, closes around a single black feather, surging gray hexx energy along it’s spine.
He meets her evil eyes, his own gaze steady despite the pain.
"Too bad…you'll never know." He teleports and Rumyana's hand closes around empty air.
“Bastard…”
She snarls and spins around, her eyes scanning the darkness. A swirl of black feathers materializes ten feet away, and Harry appears, his sword now back in his hand. He’s bleeding from a dozen wounds. His duster is torn. And his breathing is ragged. But he’s still standing.
"Karasu," he says, his voice quiet but carrying. "The Raven's Path. As long as one remains…I cannot be trapped by you…demon."
Rumyana's grin returns, wider this time.
"Then I'll just have to destroy every feather, won't I? And then those balls of yours will be as good as mine."
